The Role and Respoinsiblities of the Selling Department Manager - Essay Example This led to my choice of this firm to base my study on. Before joining Macyââ¬â¢s, the interviewee had earlier on worked for another company as an employee. While at the Macyââ¬â¢s the interviewee worked in the retail section, where she was elevated to the managerial level and headed the makeup counter. She was responsible for selling make ups in both companies she worked for. The interviewee was hired on the basis of her previous experience since she had earlier on worked for another cosmetics company. Mostly, for one to hold a managerial position in an organization, it is apparent that he or she is well educated. This means that the lowest educational level a person can have is at least a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree, accompanied with relevant work experience (Trehan & Trehan, 165). This is because management deals with running a segment of a business, which can be complex if one does not have the adequate knowledge and skills required. According to the interviewee, her typical career path was directed towards sales and marketing. Apparently, a career path is an individualââ¬â¢s choice. This is mostly influenced by an individualââ¬â¢s hobbies and not what one has studied in college or whatever level of his or her studies. Job responsibilities and duties are mostly set up by the firm offering the placement. These are the tasks one is supposed to carry one once hired. The interviewee, being in the position of a manager at a selling department, she was charged with the coordination and running of the department and at one point, she was involved in actual selling. The interviewee disclosed that the amount of salary paid was a discussion between her and the firm during the interview. It crucial for a person to discuss the expected salary with the employer before accepting an offer for the job. This makes it clear to the employee on what to expect in terms of remunerations and any other benefits that may form part of
